Default Getting Gold

Ok so being the naive noob I am Ive managed to really mess up lol.
Im playing as a Ranger with a Necro 2nd profession, and some how Ive managed to acquire loads of necro skills and no ranger ones.

I only have Power SHot, Troll Ungent, Charm and Comfort Animal. And thats it lol, all the rest are necro skills.

So someone in the game advised me Ive got to buy more skills, so is there any kind of mission I can go on where the $$$ are more fruitful or do you get money from killing beasties in the explorable areas? Im currently at Fort Rurik (sp?) at I keep getting my ass handed to me on that mission.

You mean Fort Ranik I think.

I assume you're in Post Searing? (ie. left the training area od pre-searing where everything is green and pretty to go to the most depressingly gray area in the entire game)

In Tyria there are loads of quests which give you free skills - a list of which is here. Note: You cannot pick up any free skills from quests in Factions or Nightfall, even if you own the games. Those free skills are for Factions or Nightfall trained characters only.

Assuming you're a low level character, I wouldn't worry too much about farming until you're lvl 20 and have a good selection of skills and attribute points. I would advise you to just play through the game fr the time being and if you're short of money, look at the quests which give skills as rewards.

Well I can honestly say that killing monsters at that stage is a poor income of gold. What you're better off doing is just playing a little through the game. I'm assuming you haven't bought skills before, so 300-400 gold should easily cover you for some skills at a starter level. Two skills I'd recommend, (seeing as you already have Troll Unguent) is Savage Shot and Distracting Shot. These will allow you to interrupt the actions of your enemy. Oh and in case you didn't know, /petname (name of pet) will name your ranger's pet.

Heh, there are much nicer animals as you travel through the game, keep your eye open for them (although you have to train them up each time). If you ever want to change your pet, you need to give your current pet to a Pet Tamer like this guy: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Jarrel_the_Tamer.

For more information on playing Ranger and Ranger-related discussion remember to take a look in the Ranger forum

As a general rule a Ranger's build should consist of a Preparation (to make your arrows "do more"), a few bow attacks (include an interrupt as Darkobra suggested), maybe a blocking skill such as Whirling Defense or Dodge, a heal (Troll Unguent) ... and a Resurrection Signet if you want to take one. If you're wanting to use a pet with pet attacks replace some of your bow attacks for pet attacks.

Until you've mastered the art of playing a Ranger I would encourage you to just work with Ranger skills for the time being, when you've learnt how skills go together and which ones work well you could think about using skills from your secondary profession. Note: You can change your secondary profession later on in the game.

<3 my Ranger's Strider

If you're having problems with Fort Ranik, you want to do some of the quests around the areas to level and gain a few more skills. Prophecies is awesome for the skill quests, so you could just work with what you have now and start accumulating skills as you go along instead of spending money to buy them.

Actually it's not the smartest move to buy skills this early in the game. You should wait longer, because the more skills you buy, more higher the next skill will cost (caps off at 1 plat). It's much better to do skill quests in Post-sear Old Ascalon for your skills. There are at least 20 skills for the areas you're in.

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Skill_Q...earing_Ascalon

Just do a few of these, and you'll be set. Plus you don't have to buy them

You should try and do all the quests as most of these will get you skills and level you up at the same time.

I kind of remember when I first started as a ranger, I find it a little hard to begin with due to the fact that I didn't have many skills (I didn't really know I could BUY skills until way later on...). Things gets easier as you progress through the game. As many had pointed out, you'll get skills as you quest.

I don't see how missed all the quests around Ascalon although it can be little confusing if it isn't in Town or Outpost.Like Celestial Beaver said just learn yourprimary profession asmy Ranger is a R/N from pre on.I don't use much of my Necro side just my Ranger side.

[skill]Rotting Flesh[/skill] Works well with ranger, for condition stack.. You can even bring something like [skill]Virulence[/skill] to add to your alread painfully amount of conditions... but you should really get your skill quests done first ..

You could also use [wiki]Mark of Pain[/wiki] to add some extra damage for when enemies are clumped together. It gets really fun when you capture [wiki]Barrage[/wiki] later on.

QFT! Didn't like the ranger that much when I started playing (very first character), but after I got to Shiverpeaks and started getting better skills I found out just what a reanger can do.
